Residents and groups in Whitehawk can now bid for up to £10,000 each for projects that improve the area. The money is the first pot to open from the neighbourhood’s Pride in Place programme. Applications close on 31 October 2026.
Brighton & Hove City Council announced the Quick Wins community grants on 25 September. The Whitehawk Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board, not the council, will decide who gets funded.
The two grants

The council says residents, community groups, schools, charities and local organisations can all apply. “No idea is too small,” its announcement says.
How to apply
- Email an expression of interest to prideinplace@brighton-hove.gov.uk.
- Wait for the application pack. It contains the form, guidance notes and details of how bids are assessed.
- Apply in writing or by short video. Both routes are accepted, to make the scheme easier to use.
- Get the application in by 31 October 2026.
Help with applications is available from the Pride in Place team at the same address. The council also encourages anyone with a half-formed idea to get in touch before applying.
After the deadline, eligible bids go to the Neighbourhood Board, which makes the funding decisions on both grants.
Where the money comes from
Whitehawk is one of 284 communities across the UK in the government’s Pride in Place programme. Each place can receive up to £20 million over 10 years, according to the government’s prospectus. The programme is backed by up to £5.8 billion nationally.
The council’s Pride in Place page sets out the local timetable:
- February to June 2026: the board chair and members were recruited.
- April to October 2026: community engagement to find local priorities.
- November 2026: the Whitehawk Pride in Place plan goes to government.
The plan will set a 10-year vision and a first four-year investment plan. The council lists green spaces, community facilities, local services and community-owned assets as the kinds of thing the money could go on.
Who decides
The board has 13 members. University of Brighton Vice-Chancellor Professor Donna Whitehead and PAYPR founder Kane Louis are co-chairs, the council said in August. They were chosen by Chris Ward MP, who sits on the board with the two Whitehawk ward councillors, Gill Williams and David McGregor.
The other eight members live or work in Whitehawk. Four were picked specifically to give young people a say.
In a joint statement, the co-chairs said they were “thrilled to be launching this first scheme for the Whitehawk community”.
What it means for you
- If you run a club, a school project, a residents’ group or a small event in Whitehawk, the Micro Grant is the easy route: up to £1,000, and you can apply by video.
- If a hall, garden, pitch or shared space needs work, the Capital Grant goes up to £10,000.
- Do not wait for the form. The first step is an email, and the pack comes back to you.
- The deadline is Saturday 31 October 2026, the day after October half term ends.
