Chris Ward MP took residents' Royal Mail delay complaints to managers at Rottingdean Delivery Office on 19 October and says he will raise them in Parliament.

Late post is one of the most common complaints reaching Chris Ward, the MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, and on Monday 19 October he took it to the Rottingdean Delivery Office.

His office said residents keep reporting problems receiving their post reliably. During the visit Mr Ward met the delivery office’s management to pass on the concerns local people had sent him, heard from Royal Mail staff about the pressures on the service, and talked through what more could be done to make deliveries across the constituency more reliable.

What Chris Ward said

“Royal Mail delivery delays are one of the biggest issues constituents raise with me, and I know how frustrating it is for residents when their post doesn’t arrive when they expect it to,” he said.

“Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share their experiences with me. I raised these concerns directly with management during my visit and it was good to meet the hard-working staff on the ground who are doing their best to deliver for our community.

“However, residents deserve a reliable postal service, and more needs to be done to address these ongoing problems.

“I will continue to press for improvements, including raising these concerns in Parliament, to ensure residents across Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven receive the service they deserve.”

What happens next

Mr Ward’s office said he will keep working with Royal Mail to push for improvements. He has not said when he will raise the issue in the Commons, and the release gives no figures from Royal Mail on how many rounds are running late or what it plans to change at Rottingdean.

What it means for you

Nothing changes on your doorstep yet: this was a meeting, not an announcement from Royal Mail. If your post is regularly late, Mr Ward’s office is collecting residents’ experiences, and those are what he took into the delivery office on Monday. You can also send us your news if your street has gone days without a delivery.

He was in the news last week over two Kemptown LGBTQ+ bar closures raised in the Commons and his backing for a cut in the tax on pub beer.
