At least 30 companies registered a Brighton or Hove office in early September. The company behind The Victory Inn on West Street has resolved to wind up.

At least 30 new companies gave a Brighton, Hove or Portslade registered office between 1 and 16 September, from an electrical contractor in Woodingdean to a bookkeeper in the city centre. At the other end of the register, the company that runs The Victory Inn on West Street has resolved to wind up, a Hove furniture firm’s creditors meet on Wednesday, and HMRC’s petition against a Hove care company is heard in the High Court on 7 October.

This is our fortnightly look at what the official registers say about business in the city. Companies House records incorporations; The Gazette carries the legal notices when a company is wound up.

Closures and insolvencies

Every entry below is what the Gazette notice records. A resolution or a petition is not the same as a business shutting its doors, and a petition can be opposed at the hearing.

  • Roxy Pubs Ltd, trading as The Victory Inn, 15 West Street, Brighton. At a members’ meeting on Thursday 17 September the company passed a special resolution to be wound up voluntarily and appointed Darren Edwards of Exigen Group as liquidator. Nature of business: public houses and bars. The notice does not say whether the pub is still trading. (The Gazette, notice 5217970, 24 September 2026)
  • Max Furniture Ltd, 168 Church Road, Hove. Creditors have been called to a physical meeting at MHA’s London office at 10.30am on Wednesday 30 September to agree the appointment of joint liquidators. Creditors who want to vote must lodge proof of debt by 4pm the day before. (The Gazette, notice 5215945, 23 September 2026)
  • Quantum Living Ltd, 12C Grand Avenue, Hove. Joint liquidators from BTG Begbies Traynor were appointed by creditors on 17 September. (The Gazette, notice 5214606, 22 September 2026)
  • A-Team Care Ltd, The Old Bank, 257 New Church Road, Hove. HM Revenue and Customs presented a petition to wind the company up on 10 August, claiming to be a creditor. It will be heard at the High Court in London at 10.30am on Wednesday 7 October. Anyone wishing to support or oppose it must give notice by 4pm on 6 October. A petition is an application; the court decides. (The Gazette, notice 5216442, 25 September 2026)

Two other notices this week carry a Brighton address only because the companies moved their registered office to their liquidators’ premises in Stroudley Road. Adam Baker Carpets Ltd traded from Burgess Hill and N R Corp Limited from Reigate, according to their Companies House filing histories, so we have left them out.

New companies, 1 to 16 September

Companies House lists these incorporations with a registered office in the BN1, BN2, BN3 or BN41 postcodes. We searched the register for addresses containing “Brighton”, so a Hove firm whose address omits the city name may be missing. Each entry gives the nature of business the company declared. A registered office is often an accountant’s address rather than a shop front, and a new company is not always a new business.

What it means for you

  • If you drink at The Victory Inn: the resolution to wind up is about the company, Roxy Pubs Ltd, and the liquidator’s job is to realise its assets and settle with creditors. Whether the pub keeps trading under another operator is not something the notice tells us. If you know, email hello@brightontimes.co.uk.
  • If you are owed money by any of the four companies: the Gazette notices give the liquidators’ contact details and deadlines. Max Furniture’s creditors must lodge proof of debt by 4pm on Tuesday 29 September to vote at Wednesday’s meeting.
  • If you use A-Team Care: a petition is not a winding-up order. The company can oppose it on 7 October, and the court can dismiss or adjourn it. The Care Quality Commission’s register, not the Gazette, is where any change to a care provider’s registration would appear.
