No public New Year's Eve fireworks are booked in Brighton. Komedia has four NYE events, from a 1pm kids' disco to a 10pm 70s party; Albion host Man Utd 2 Jan.

The quick answer

  • Fireworks: none booked. There is no public New Year’s Eve display on the council’s 2026 list of events on its land, whose last December entry is Burning the Clocks on 21 December.
  • Date: New Year’s Eve is Thursday 31 December 2026; New Year’s Day is a Friday.
  • What is on: Komedia on Gardner Street has four New Year’s Eve events, from a 1pm children’s disco to a 70s disco with doors at 10pm.
  • Football: no Albion game on the night. The next home match is Albion v Manchester United, Saturday 2 January, 12.30pm.
  • Getting home: last trains and night buses for 2026 are not published yet; our Christmas and New Year travel page will carry them.

Checked 27 October 2026 against the council’s outdoor events page, Komedia’s own listings, Theatre Royal Brighton’s listings and Brighton & Hove Albion’s fixture list. This page will be updated in December when the venues and transport operators publish more.

Is there a New Year’s Eve fireworks display in Brighton?

Not one that anyone has booked. Brighton & Hove City Council publishes the events it has agreed on its parks, beaches and seafront on its outdoor events page. Read on 27 October, the December section holds a single entry: Burning the Clocks on Monday 21 December, the lantern parade to the beach at Madeira Drive. There is nothing on 31 December. The VisitBrighton Christmas and New Year events page, read the same day, lists no display either.

So, unlike London, there is no ticketed or free city display to plan around. People do gather on the seafront and the beach at midnight; that is not an event, and nobody lays on stewarding or safety cover for it. If you go down to the beach, the council’s winter advice from its December 2025 seafront release still applies: stay out of the water this winter. Our Christmas Day swim page has the detail.

If a display is added, it would show on the council’s events page first, and this page will change the same day.

Komedia: four New Year’s Eve events

Komedia, the arts centre at 44-47 Gardner Street, BN1 1UN in the North Laine, has New Year’s Eve events on sale (Komedia listings). Of the city’s main venues we checked on 27 October, it is the only one with a New Year’s Eve programme: Brighton Dome has nothing listed on 31 December, and the Theatre Royal has its Christmas musical. Komedia does not print ticket prices on its event pages; you see them when you book.

  • Disco Kidz: New Year’s Eve Special, doors 1pm. A daytime club for children and their grown-ups, with DJs, dance-offs, face painting, giveaways and a special “midnight” countdown at 3pm. It runs for two and a half hours in the Komedia basement. No adults without a child, a maximum of three children per adult, and every child needs a ticket except babies in slings; recommended for ages 4 and up (Komedia).
  • Komedia Comedy Club: New Year’s Eve Special, 7pm, doors 6pm. Komedia’s own comedy club’s New Year’s Eve show; the line-up is not yet named (Komedia).
  • Spellbound: NYE Party, doors 9pm. Spellbound is the alternative 80s club night run by the DJs Simon Price and Jayney BlamBlam, usually on the third Saturday of the month in the Studio Bar (Komedia).
  • Boogie Wonderland: 70s Disco NYE Party, doors 10pm, ages 18 and over. A 70s disco night. Komedia says you can book the comedy special and Boogie Wonderland together, with a meal, through the comedy show’s booking page and “save up to £16” (Komedia).

Theatre and football

Theatre Royal Brighton has the musical Legally Blonde from Tuesday 15 December to Saturday 2 January, which takes in New Year’s Eve; the theatre’s listing does not yet show the performance times for 31 December, so check before you book (Theatre Royal Brighton). It is the theatre’s Christmas show this year; there is no pantomime at the Theatre Royal, as our Brighton pantomime page explains.

Brighton & Hove Albion do not play on New Year’s Eve. The last game of 2026 is away at Tottenham on Tuesday 29 December, 7.30pm, and the first of 2027 is at home to Manchester United on Saturday 2 January, 12.30pm, at the American Express Stadium (Albion fixtures).

Getting there and getting home

New Year’s Eve trains and buses are the thing to check. National Rail’s Christmas and New Year 2026/27 page warns that services on some routes will finish earlier than normal on 31 December, and says its guide to last trains from London will be published in late November or early December, with a guide to the special after-midnight services on London routes in early December. Our Christmas and New Year travel page will carry the last trains from Brighton and London, and the Brighton & Hove Buses festive timetable, when they are published.

If you are driving into the centre, most of central Brighton is resident-permit parking, so read our parking in Brighton page first, and check the Brighton roadworks and travel page for any closures that week.

Still to be announced

  • Any public New Year’s Eve event or display on council land: none listed on 27 October.
  • The Komedia comedy line-up for 31 December.
  • Legally Blonde’s performance times on 31 December.
  • Last trains and night buses on New Year’s Eve 2026.
