The Brighton & Hove Triathlon has been bought by Supertri. From 2027 it is Supertri Brighton, on Sunday 29 August, and early-bird entries close on 19 September.

The Brighton & Hove Triathlon has changed hands, four days after this year’s race closed the seafront. From 2027 it becomes Supertri Brighton, run by the international short-course series Supertri, and it moves to Sunday 29 August 2027, the August bank holiday weekend.

The event’s own website, brightontriathlon.com, now redirects to Supertri’s page for the race, which says: “The Brighton & Hove Triathlon has a new home. One of the biggest events in the UK triathlon calendar joins Supertri from 2027. Same seafront, same fast and flat traffic-free route from Hove Lawns along the Promenade” (Supertri Brighton).

Entries are already open, and the early-bird price closes on 19 September.

What is not changing

The two things that matter most to anyone who has done it, or watched it, stay put.

  • Hove Lawns remains the base for the swim start, transition and finish.
  • The bike and run stay on the closed seafront promenade, the flat, traffic-free stretch that gives the race its reputation.

What is changing

The date moves forward by a week and lands on the bank holiday weekend. This year’s race was on Sunday 6 September; the 2027 edition is Sunday 29 August, with the bank holiday Monday the following day. For a city that fills up on a bank holiday weekend anyway, that is a meaningful shift for anyone letting a room, running a cafe on the front or trying to park.

The programme, as advertised so far, is narrower. Supertri’s 2027 page lists three races:

The 2026 event was listed by British Triathlon as the Brighton & Hove Triathlon and Multisport Festival, and it was exactly that. Alongside the triathlons it carried a 1,500m sea swim, a sprint swim, sprint aquabike and aquathlon, a sprint duathlon, standard aquabike and aquathlon, paratriathlon categories and TriStar races for children (British Triathlon event listing). None of those appear on the 2027 page yet. Supertri has not said whether they return, and we have not been able to confirm either way.

Brighton joins a chain. Supertri’s site lists its other race cities as Chicago, Long Beach, Toulouse, New Jersey, Austin, Toronto, Kerrville and Blenheim Palace. Blenheim is the only other UK event, so Brighton becomes the series’ second British race.

The scale of it, on the record

British Triathlon’s listing for the 6 September 2026 race put expected competitors at 2,000, starting from 6.30am at Hove Lawns.

That is enough people to shut the main coast road. Under the council’s temporary order for this year’s race, the A259 was closed in both directions between Kingsway at Wish Road in Hove and Western Street in Brighton, from 6am to 3pm, with the one-way order on the west side of Norfolk Square suspended and reversed (council order, 28 August 2026). Expect a similar order for the 2027 date once it is made.

What it means for you

If you were going to enter, the deadline is real and it is close. Early-bird pricing closes on 19 September, more than eleven months before the race. Supertri lists a medal, T-shirt, chip timing, bag drop, app tracking, aid stations, a branded swim hat and post-event hydration with entry.

If you did one of the non-triathlon races, wait before assuming it is back. The aquathlon, duathlon, aquabike, standalone swims and the children’s TriStar races were a large part of what made the September weekend a festival rather than a single race. They are not on the 2027 page. Ask before you build a training plan around one.

If you live on the seafront, put 29 August 2027 in the diary now. A bank holiday Sunday with the A259 shut between Hove and Western Street is a different proposition from the first Sunday in September. The closure order will appear on the Public Notice Portal nearer the time, and we will carry it on our roadworks and travel page when it does.

There is nothing yet from the council about the change of organiser, and no figure has been published for what Supertri paid.
